We Can Do Whatever We Want Right Now
– cut paper
Since I was a tween, I have been interested and sometimes obsessed with how it feels to be a young girl in a world that sexualizes you without your consent.
In these cut-outs I wanted to create a different kind of fantasy: a world where "we can do whatever we want." These images ask: what do we do away from the gaze of the objectifying other? Are we truly free, or do we end up subconsciously performing for that gaze even when it is removed?
But who are "we" in these images? Who am I in this scenario, and who are you? Objectifier or objectified? Or both?
All are cut paper, sizes vary from 12x18" to 18x24".
